GMM Round 1 Worlds View 17 January 2010
The first round of the 2010 season was held up at worlds view on the brand new track that Brian and Gary had put a lot of work into. The weekend of the race started as a wet one and had the course looking as slippery as anything. Most of us put our mud tyres on and were expecting a un-ride able course.
We all gave it a look and then suited up for practice at about 09:45am; the first guys went down and came back up looking really dirty and this made me decide to change to flat peddles. Then I went for my first run of the day and got some of my previously practiced lines all muddled up and into the last section of the course crashed and hurt my hand. I then had a further three runs of which on the last two I changed back to clips. Then it was time for the race runs to take place.
First race run: the 1st race run started off really well, I had all my lines perfect except for the off-camber section. I was down the track with no problems in 1.53.23 and this put me in second position in my age group for the time being.
Second race run: after realising that the competition was not that much slower than my time I was eager to get a really good time, I left the start gate and in the second rock garden , my over confidence met the ground and I slammed into the first little berm, hardly noticing my bikes injuries I jumped on and saw that my bars were skew, really skew. I rode like this for a little while thinking I could not straighten my bars but eventually stopped and sorted out the problem and was going again, raced over one of the doubles that I always case and this time cleared it. I managed to get down safe but I was a little angry after seeing that the off-camber section dried up a bit and was really takkie. At the end of the day I ended up coming 3rd in my age group, with Shane Martin beating me by 8 split of a second and Tiaan coming first, way ahead of the rest of us.
I would also just like to thank the organisers for an awesome event and to the spectators for making it amazing for us riders. And thanks to Brian and Gary for the track building and to Mike Conrad and Ian for all the support on the day.
