Kona Bikes

Maverick Cycles are the exclusive Kona dealer in South Africa and can provide you with every single bike they make. This is an advantage, as limiting the range we bring in would limit the customer base we can serve. Kona’s range is so diverse that even trying to work out a target market would be near impossible. Keeping it simple is one of the values we share with Kona, that’s why if you want a kid’s Makena, a racy Kula or Stab, a road-going Zing or a commuting Dew, we can provide. More....

2010 Kona Bikes

Trail Bikes
Blast (In Stock)
We wanted to call this bike "good times explosion" but it was too long. Blast will have to do. Not just because it launches you into the beautiful world of all-day trail riding, but you'll have so much fun on this bike we might have to charge you extra. Kidding. This year the Blast gets hydraulic brakes for better stopping power. Oh trust us, we know, it's not easy wrangling in the good times.

Cindercone
Ride forever. Ride wherever. Kona's legacy-laden Cinder Cone has be delivering riders into the forested folds of the world for over 20 years. And it's showing no signs of letting up. Beautiful aluminum frameset, with a new internal headset for added robustness, outfitted with a supple and svelte Rock Shox Tora SL front fork, and the 2010 Cinder Cone redefines the performance vs. cost equation.

Nothing will get you going quicker off-road than the race born Kula. Using Kona's paradigm shifting sloping top tube technology, super light, tight and true riding Kona Race Light 7005 Aluminum Butted frame, dressed with components that won't slow you down, like a Shimano XT rear derailleur and RockShox Recon SL Solo 100mm front fork, but modest enough so there's money for post podium beers.

More aggressive geometry, faster suspension, beefier components and stiffer all-around construction-like a new 1.5" tapered headtube, the new and improved Dawg comes keen to attack obstacles with tongue a flappin'. For those looking to enter the world's universe of backcountry burl for the first time, or just a beautiful bike with no boundaries, this is your new best friend.

Dawg Deluxe

Kids Bikes
Makena
(In Stock)
We design our kids bikes with lots of standover clearance to give the little rippers the comfort and confidence to tear up the trails. The Makena does just that. Solid and stable, the Makena has twist shifters for little hands, cool graphics and components that can take a royal beating.

Hula (In Stock)
Little kids have little parts, but it still hurts when they squash them, so we give trail tearing tykes a little more standover height on the Hula for comfort and confidence. More than any other mountain bike company in creation, we design our bikes to fit more sizes of kids into our offerings. We think of the details: forks with soft springs that really work, kid's specific saddle, bars and twist shifters that small hands can handle.

Stinky 24
Hand's down, the world's best dual suspension bike for young riders. Perfect for freeride and park riding, with solid components and kid specific geometry. To keep up with the never-ending progression of youth, this year we've made the bike lighter and more streamlined. Look out pops, your time in the sun is over. The groms are coming for ya.

Freeride
CoilAir

It's everything from a Dawg to a Stinky wrapped into one. Comfy climbing and daredevil descender. Light but strong, adaptable, rippable, jumpable, beautiful. Thanks to our refined G2 Magic Link technology, the CoilAir has the instinctive ability to change geometry, suspension performance and length of rear travel depending on your type of riding and the terrain at hand. Entering its third year of all-mountain, free-cross glory, for 2010 we've completely gone over everything on the bike and made it faster, lighter, stronger, and stiffer. With a new, lighter, totally redesigned and refined frame, the Kona CoilAir is quite simply, the Answer.

CoilAir Deluxe
For the discerning free-crosser, that soldiered soul who climbs to the huck-and-hold goodness of advanced mountain cycling, the Kona CoilAir Deluxe does everything good. XC one day, dirt jumps the next, shuttle-descents on Thursday to mega alpine assaults all weekend long, thanks to our refined G2 Magic Link technology, the CoilAir has the instinctive ability to change geometry, suspension performance and length of rear travel depending on your type of riding and the terrain at hand. Entering its third year of all-mountain, free-cross glory, for 2010 we've completely gone over everything on the bike and made it faster, lighter, stronger, stiffer. With a completely redesigned frame from the ground up, the Kona CoilAir Deluxe is quite simply, the Answer's Answer.

Stinky Six
In a nut, this is the classic North Shore freeride bike. And we should know, we've been riding here since it all started. For those who insist on climbing to the burl, those simple, classic folks hell bent on ripping it all-up and down-the pared version of our legendary Stinky enjoys dual chainrings for comfortable climbing, comes Hammerschmidt compatible, and takes all bells and whistles and shoves them where the sun don't shine (cause it don't shine much on the Shore). Plushness guaranteed.

Stinky
The original freeride bike manifests in 2010 as one of the most refined and perfected freeride bikes on the market. Beautifully plush suspension, tough as nails frame and durable, well-priced components, and you have the classic freeride experience Kona is famous for. Step into the big travel world with confidence, with a freeride package that will hold up longer than both your legs and your lungs.

Stinky Deluxe
Black as night and legendary smooth, the new Stinky D, aka "Stink Hammer", comes stock with SRAM's new internally geared Hammerschmidt FR. Better clearance, easier shifting and no need for a chain guide, the new Stink Hammer is the perfect bike for bike park riding and bomb blaster descents, but because of it's design, is still able to climb to those hard to access goods. The very first freeride bike on the market now looks nothing like it's former self thanks to a decade of refinements. It still does what it set out to do, however; blow your mind.

DJ and SlopeStyle
Cowan

The signature model of our hardtail dirtjump collection. Named for the man who made it all happen, the legend himself, freeride pioneer John Cowan. Internal headset for slamming. Dialed Kona Clump 7005 Aluminum frame for popping. Custom selected components for snapping. Tap into the source. No other dirt jump bike comes as trialed, tested and trued as the 2010 Kona Cowan.

Bass
The winningest slopestyle bike in the history of all things, straight out-of-the-box and on to a podium near you. The slopestyle bike of choice for the Kona Clump, this year we take it to a new level of stylie minimalism. Light, tight dual suspension thanks to a Marzocchi Roco Air rear shock, new singlespeed simplicity, smokin' ball-burnished finish, and a component selection made for nothing but gold.

Shred (In Stock)
Aptly named, perfectly built, and ruggedly dressed, the Shred is our crossover out-of-bounds, dirt jump and all round mountain bike bruiser. Built to last and, ahem, shred. Shimano drivetrain, Hayes mechanical disc brakes, Marzocchi Dirt Jumper fork, all at a price that leaves room for a sweet pair of our new Paul Bass designed dirt jump jeans.

Stuff
Built with the same skeletal DNA as the Shred, the Stuff has the money to throw down for a Marzocchi Dirt Jump Two fork with a 20mm thru-axle, hydraulic disc brakes and shinier Shimano derailleurs. You'll be the black sheep hero cousin at your family reunion barbeque, bunny hoppin' the picnic table spread, adding a succulent beef dish to the mix.

Shonky
Be mean to the streets with our hardtail, singlespeed sportin' steel showpiece. Sick paint and graphics, with the smooth, snappy feel of chromoly, slay dirt jumps, pump tracks, and four-cross courses. Take your kit to the blingosphere, Shonk it up.

Downhill Race
Stab Deluxe

Out-of-the-box DH domination-without breaking the bank. Wind tunnel tested. Reduced frame weight. Tapered headtube and internal headset with oversized bearings for lower stack height, better rigidity, and more surface area to attach to downtube. Tighter cluster. D.O.P.E. System to eliminate brake jack. Adjustable BB height, geometry and ride characteristics. Avid Code brakes, RockShox Boxxer Race fork, Alex FR-32 wheels. Basically, the lightest, fastest, raddest Stab we've ever made without ever having to put it in a wind tunnel. Did anyone believe we put the S.D. in a wind tunnel?

Stab Supreme
In the span of five years, the Stab Supreme won the World Championships twice, and added a silver and a bronze, while grabbing 10 World Cup wins and one overall World Cup Championship. That must be why it's one of the most imitated designs on the World Cup circuit. Hell, someone even borrowed the name.

For 2010, we reduced frame weight, added tapered headtube and internal headset with oversized bearings for lower stack height, better rigidity, and more surface area to attach to downtube. Tighter cluster. D.O.P.E. System to eliminate brake jack. Adjustable BB height, geometry and ride characteristics. Shimano Saint, Rock Shox Boxxer World Cup fork, Sun rims. Basically, the lightest, fastest, raddest Stab we've ever made.
