What do you call your bike? I dont really name my bikes, they just my jump bike or downhill bike etc.
Why do you ride for Maverick? I have ridden for Maverick Cycles for the past two years, they are a really cool bunch of people and have done a lot for me and my riding and we always have a good time together.
Why do you ride the bike(s) you ride? Different bikes are more fun to ride on different terrain. XC bikes are cool on longer rides and such while DH and jump bikes are way more fun on jumps and the steeper, faster, more technical stuff.
Why do you ride bicycles? I love riding bicycles. It doesnt matter if its doing some XC training riding uphill and then enjoying the singletrack or cruising around and jumping on my jump bike. Downhill is the best though, even if you have to push up the hill with some mates. Theres nothing like riding through the forest and challenging yourself to go faster and ride everything better. Theres so much fun to be had that I'll never get tired of riding bikes.
What do you hope to accomplish this year, on and off the bike? Off the bike I'd like to qualify as a tool, jig, and die maker and also pass all the subjects in studying part time.
On the bike I want to qualify and race in the downhill world cup in Pietermaritzburg, podium in the regionals, as well as place in the top 5 in the nationals, all African Champs and SA Champs.
Do you want to be a professional (paid) rider, or are you in it for fun? I am definately in it because I really have a lot of fun riding. but it would be really awesome to be a professional rider so I'll keep training hard and enjoy riding and see what the future holds.
What do you like to do when you're not riding? I like to do some bass fishing, theres a really cool dam by my house. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends, mayb have some xbox challenges or go to the beach. Playing with fireworks is always fun and its also great to just sit back, relax and take a break from the busyness.
What songs are always playing on your iPod, iPhone(for K-Dub) or Mobile? They change quite often as I hear of new artists and such but at the moment Ive been listening to Ingrid Michaelson: Be OK, Soldier and You and I. Incubus: Follow, Drive and Pardon Me. Finch: Letters to you and What it is to Burn. The Tidal Waves: Kia Ora. Band of Horses: Funeral. Jack Johnson: lots of songs. Jack Parrow: I Miss and Hier's Hy Nou. Kings of Leon: lots. Rise Against: all their music. Red Hot Chilli Peppers: lots. RJD2: The Bachelors Remix and 16 Stitch: lots.
What is your favorite movie? I like a lot of movies: Poena is Koning, Hot Rod, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Boondock Saints, I enjoyed Iron Man 1&2. thats all I can think of for now.
Who do you look up to up to in the sport and in life? In Sport I look up to Steve Peat for still being so fast even though he's a lot older than most of the other riders, Greg Minnaar for putting SA on the map and all he's accomplished so far and Gary Barnard. He's like the Steve Peat of SA. He still is so fast even though he has a family and is a bit older than the rest of us.
In life I look up to my dad for always supporting me in whatever I do and for working so hard for his family. He's quite fast on a DH bike also. ha ha.
I also look up to my Grandfather. He passed away in 2009 but he was an amazing person with great view on life and was a really good example to me.
What do you differently on race day? Wake up early, always eat breakfast and pack all my tools and spare kit. I try to stay relaxed as if its a normal days riding.
Describe yourself in three words. Dedicated, Driven, Enthusiastic.
