Ever wondered what we get up to when we’re not “the guy at the bike shop”? We do have lives… This is where we will post general stuff that’s going on, like races, places to ride, places to go, people we met. We’ll post articles and pictures, and give you a place to leave your comments as well, or even your races and rides.

I Got My VZ On
Added By Conrad Davies 07 December 2009

What awesome shades and goggles, AND people at Von Zipper. We got our team sponsorship stuff this last week, just in time for the first KZN provincials (which got canceled due to rain). I got a set of Kickstands with grey lenses, and a set of Porkchop MX goggles, the other white meat. Loving them.

I took the Kickstands on a long ride on Saturday Afternoon, in drizzle and low light conditions and they worked great. The lenses are so clear and the grey makes trail details stand out, with out blowing all the highlights out, like  a amber of yellow lens does. The lenses also seem to be a bit hydrophobic, which meant the rain didn’t stick to them. The faster you ride the better, because the faster you go the better they clear  water.

Sunday was DH practice and tire testing, seeing as there was now race. And a chance to try out my new Porkchops. I have a slight problem with the bridge of my nose (messed it up face planting a berm) so I always battle to breath for the first ten or so times I wear a new set of goggles. Not with the Porkchops. They where a bit tight for the first hour or so, but soon started to mould really well to my face. The Wide frame with great peripheral view  sat perfectly in my Troy Lee Designs D2 helmet and didn’t move. The rubberized strap was awesome, if maybe a bit tight, but just staid exactly where you put it.

The sun was beating down, so I changed from the standard clear lens to the grey chrome option. Again Awesome. The grey lens still lets trough enough light for riding in the forest sections, but with out that harsh transfer you get with amber of blue Oakley lenses, when you exit the forest into the sun shine.

The down side with the VZ goggles was that I dropped my bike, handle bar straight on to the lens. Big scratch, but it didn’t brake. I guess it was a good test, at least I know that I can rely on the lenses to protect my eyes from stones and such, get thrown up while following others down the trail.

Thanks very much Chad and Von Zipper SA, you guys are legendary!
