Kona Love

So the new 2010 Konas are out, and personally, I think I might be in love…

I’ve been a Kona fan from the start. When I first started taking riding “seriously” I was given a copy of Ride Magazine sometime in1999. Inside was a Kona ad, with some Maritzburg kid called Greg (yes, that Greg…), who had won the national champs on the coolest bike I had ever seen, a Kona Stab Dee-Lux.

The Konas have evolved a lot since then, but some of the names are still around. I thought I’d compare some of the 2000 range with the 2010 versions.

Not the same name, but the top end XC hardtail of 2000.

Probably the 2010 equivalent:

Both Hardtail, Scandium, 100mm fork, 9spd, Disc brakes, and super cool looking…

The Stinky has been in the Kona range almost since the beginning, and when there wasn’t even a real market for it. Now there is, and it’s still an amazing bike.

 My personal favourite, I’ll include the 1999 stab as well, for my personal enjoyment, as it’s the bike that started the Kona love…
