Europe – 2010

Euobike’s day three – Electric bikes are definitely a huge thing here in Europe. Some of these machines have really cool designs where the battery packs are intergrated into the frames. One thing though, is that these battery packs are huge – so whether the stories about riders mechanically doping are true....unless there are some seriously powerful but minutely compact batteries out there, I don’t think this is happening yet! These bikes are so popular and in need that E29,000 worth where stolen from Eurobike on Friday.

Cannondale’s electric bike with battery that fits down the seat tube

Bicycle or electricmotor bike? – this came past me on the dead flat test track at about 40kph, and the dude was not even turning a pedal

Super-electric motard , anyone? Or an electric-downhill bike that you can ride uphill?
The KCNC machined stuff is here in truck loads from every second Taiwanese manufacturer you can think of, super light, super colourful – all needs to be done is find a manufacturer and put a funky name on it, and wow – a “new” product line....

If you think that’s blowing the hell into it – the same goes from frames and frame tube sets – want to design and manufacture your own bike – that’s simpler than one can imagine. In my opinion, there are some top class designers of bikes, they conceptualise, test, retest to find what they want to produce. The problem now being is that the frames are now reproduced and rebranded....I even saw a raw aluminium frame that looked suspiciously similar to the single pivot Zula! Wanted to take a pic, but could not find the stall again – that’s how bike this place is.
Saw plenty new helmets and accessories too:
Nice XAR rang from Giro for 2011 – wonder if it will get to SA?
